My 45 Day Money Challenge - Week One

You can listen to my story on our Moms Making a Million Radio Show, but I'm also going to journal about my experience in the 45 Day Money Challenge that Janice Marie Wilson, author of the Goodness Experience and Dream Team Expert set us on.

If you're a listener then you may recall that on the November 13, 2009 radio show, Janice talked about the money challenge and Kat and I were so inspired, we dedicated ourselves to experience it and we started our challenge that day.

I have to say that although I didn't do it perfectly, I had AMAZING results within 48 hours.

It started by me noticing change laying on the ground. I never noticed that before. Since Janice and I spoke earlier, she mentioned about seeing change on the ground. Rather than leaving it there, I started picking it up and that act of picking it up triggered me to remember to feel gratitude and to say, "I love what I do and I love the money I make". Each time I found a penny, I said that.

The next day, I was volunteering for a charity sidewalk sale. I decided to stay the full day instead of my allotted 4 hours because I realized we didn't have enough volunteers on clean up. Although everyone told me not to because I've been "over doing it" a lot and paying for it. I'm still in recovery from breast cancer, so I should be resting...Ha!

Anyway, I kept shopping in the light traffic times of the sale and I quickly went past my $100 set budget and by the end of the day, I had racked up at least $250 worth of jewelry and home decor. All essential items, I might add. I was ready to go to the ATM to get more money. I just loved what I picked and couldn't find anything that I was willing to give up in order to stick to my budget. Besides, it was for charity.

Okay- this is a bad money move. Don't follow my example of overspending.

I was really happy too because all of these things I had seen in the catalog and wanted - which would have cost me almost $800 retail! I was already very excited to save about $600!

It was the end of the event, and I was going to go to the ATM to pay for my goodies. That's when they informed me that I didn't need to go to the ATM because all volunteers could shop for FREE! They didn't tell the volunteers this at the beginning. It was for the ones that stayed the day. I couldn't believe it! Within 48 hours of my 45 Day Money Challenge, I just made/saved over $800 retail. Half of my Christmas shopping was done and it was FREE!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

Later in the week, my penny picking has increased its "bang for my buck" too. I have noticed that I am now finding dimes. One week into it, and I'm already seeing a 10% increase!

I'll let you know what happens this next week!

As we near Thanksgiving (next week already), I have more than money to be thankful for. Last year at this very same week, I wasn't sure if I would be alive. I am very blessed to see this Thanksgiving, to be with my family, to have the wonderful friends I have, and to see the Moms Making a Million program do good for moms all over the country.

It truly is a beautiful life - even during the tough times. I am so grateful.
